Erin Fleming is an inspiring, nurturing and knowledgeable teacher at the forefront of the Yin Yoga movement in Northern California. She views Yin Yoga as a profound practice that emphasizes long-held but passive poses which enhance flexibility in the joints and instill lightness and grace in the body. By weaving her knowledge of the ancient wisdom paths of Buddhism and the Yoga Sutras into her classes, Erin taps into the mind, soul and spirit in a way that surpasses the simple physical practice of asana.

Spreading yoga to people in other countries is Erin’s greatest joy! Through her business, Yogadeva, she has so far led teacher trainings, retreats and workshops in England, North Wales, Spain, Denmark, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, France, Greece, India, Bali, and Singapore. When at home in Marin County, Erin is acting Yoga Director of Bay Club Marin. Since 2003 she has successfully built a sizeable yoga program of 46 regular classes a week along with periodic workshops and teacher trainings. She has cultivated a team of over 65 extraordinary teachers, and acts not just as their manager, but as their mentor.  Erin also teaches private yoga sessions, and created a program for the employees at Lucas Films that has been thriving since 2004.

A native of California, Erin was first introduced to yoga by her father, who taught her to practice poses and meditation before heading off to grade school each morning. Later, after an extensive dance career, her life-long dedication to body-oriented practices eventually led her to teach yoga. Her classes are a creative, mindful synthesis of both static and flowing postures that ultimately cultivate breath awareness.

Erin’s yoga path has been inspired by a wide gamut of styles including Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar, Viniyoga, Anusara, Taoist, and Yin Yoga. Her extensive training with Sarah Powers, Paulie Zink and Paul Grilley led her to focus on Yin Yoga in her own teaching. In addition, while living in England for three years, Erin was certified by the British Wheel of Yoga, an extensive Yoga teacher training program recognized by the British government.

Erin’s audio CD, “YIN YOGA: The Essential Practice,” has received rave reviews by Yoga Journal, Yogi Times and Alternative Medicine Magazine. This CD is now available on iTunes.

A distant lifetime ago, Erin was a flight attendant for Pan Am and several other international airlines. She graduated from University of San Francisco and also did time in the corporate world marketing and managing business retreats for Tom Peters, a wildly successful author and business guru. This—and plenty of other amazing experiences with people and places—prepared her well for the work she loves: introducing yoga to as many people as possible.

Erin lives blissfully in San Anselmo, California on a lovely tree-lined street with her two adoring cats, Henry and Emma.
